The Trysting Place Rangers have been to the Milwaukee MSBL Championship Final 5 times, winning titles in 1995 over the Rockies and 1996 over the Sox. The Vipers are the 3 time defending Champs, beating the Rangers in 1998 and 1999, and the Marlins last year. Saturday at Brietlow Field, the Rangers claimed title #3, with a 9-2 victory over the Vipers. The Vipers opened the scoring in the 1st, as SS Marvin Oliver crossed the plate on a double steal attempt before trapped runner Mike Curtis was tagged out. The Rangers matched that run as CF Pete Jaske led off with a walk, stole second and scored on 1B Jeff Kovnesky's RBI double. Ranger starting pitcher John Arnold was in a groove the entire game, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, with 9 strikeouts. The Vipers managed only one more run, as 1B Mike Curtis singled in CF Mike Chapes in the 7th. The Rangers took the lead for good in the 5th on a Jeff Kovnesky ground out, which scored Pete Jaske. In the Ranger 6th, the team played long ball. SS Scott Radtke belted a solo HR to left, and after DH Al Alt singled, RF Pete Whalen blasted a 2 run shot, well over the left field fence, and the Rangers were on their way to the title. The Rangers tacked on 1 run in the 7th on a Scott Radtke RBI single. The Rangers added 3 in the 8th as Pete Whalen and Gary Witthuhn singled, John Bergner bunted them to second and third, Pete Jaske knocked in one on a fielders choice, 2B Terry Teske walked, and Jeff Kovnesky knocked in another with a ground out. Dan Trivett finished the scoring with an RBI single. Hitting highlights include Jeff Kovnesky who was 3-5 with 3 RBI and 1 run scored. Scott Radtke went 3-4 with 2 RBI, 1 run scored and 1 HR. Pete Whalen had a single, scored 2 runs hit a 2 run HR in 4 AB's. Pete Jaske scored 3 runs. |
