Rangers Start Fast - Hold On For Win

The Trysting Place Rangers and Marlins locked horns in a second round playoff game Saturday at Wisconsin Ave Park, with the Rangers surviving in a tense 7-6 win. The Rangers jumped to an early lead with a 5 run first. Leadoff hitter Pete Jaske reached base on a walk, stole second, and scored on a 2B Terry Teske single. 1B Jeff Kovnesky followed with a 2 run HR to right. One out later, C Mike Butterfield cranked a solo shot in to the left field trees. With 2 outs, 3B Al Alt singled, and courtesy runner Scott Radtke scored all the way from 1st base on DH Pete Whalen's single. Starting pitcher John Arnold went 6 2/3 innings, and Dan Trivett pitched the final 2 1/3 innings as the Rangers advanced to the semi-finals. For the Marlins, RP Phil Hogans socked a solo HR. For the Rangers, Al Alt and Pete Whalen each collected 3 hits.
