Rangers Weather Storm, Eliminate Braves 8-3
Throughout the 2000 Milwaukee MSBL regular season, the Trysting Place Rangers had little trouble with the weather and the other teams. Both of those scenarios changed Sunday morning, after a line of thunderstorms moved through the Milwaukee area which left Wisconsin Ave Park unplayable. 3 1/2 hours later, and at a different field, Rainbow Park, the Rangers and Braves were finally able to compete in the post season playoffs. The Rangers struggled to a victory, grinding out an 8-3 verdict over the Braves, who advanced to the second round with a win over the Yankees on Saturday. In the first 5 innings the only scoring was 3 unearned runs the Rangers pushed over in the 2nd inning. Ranger starting pitcher John Arnold, and Brave starter Mark Holzworth were locked up in a pitching duel, until Ranger 1B Jeff Kovnesky blasted a 2 run HR in the Ranger 6th. The Braves put the potential tying runs on base in the 7th, but were unable to score. Ranger relief pitcher Dan Trivett stepped up to the plate and poked a 2 RBI double in the 7th, and the Rangers held on to advance to the league semi-finals, to be played on Sat Sept 16 against the winner of the Rockies-Marlins.
