| The Trysting Place Rangers and the Rockies entered play tied for 1st place in the Sunday Division with records of 3-0. When the dust settled, the Rangers had a 19-9 victory, and sole possession of the division lead. This game was similar to many in the Ranger-Rockie rivalry over the years, featuring several lead changes, and always lots of hitting. The second inning alone, the teams combined for 14 runs and 16 hits. Included in the 2nd inning, Ranger RF Pete Whalen and DH Eric Rohde collected RBI singles. In the Ranger 5th, 3B Al Alt ripped a 2 RBI single and tied the game at 9-9. The Rangers took the lead for good in the 6th inning, which included a quality AB by Rohde, who fouled off several pitches from Rockie P Anthony Fioretti, before drilling a 2 run single. 1B Jeff Kovnesky put the game out of reach with an inside-the-park grand slam in the 7th inning. Dan Trivett, making his Ranger debut in relief of starter John Arnold, pitched 2 scoreless innings, striking out 4 Rockies. |
