Rangers take division lead with 8-1 record
On
a muggy Sunday afternoon at Wick Field, the Trysting Place Rangers defeated
the Marlins by the score of 7-5. The Rangers (now 8-1) rallied from a 5
run deficit, to pull out yet another come from behind win. Marlin pitcher
Mike Grebe retired 10 of the first 11 Ranger hitters before Ranger 1B Jeff
Kovnesky clubbed his second HR of the season, a solo shot over the right
field fence. Kovnesky added a run scoring double in the sixth, and starting
pitcher John Arnold ripped a 2 RBI double to pull the Rangers to within
a run at 5-4. SS Terry Teske singled in LF Jack Barron in the 7th, with
the run that proved to be the game winner. Relief pitcher Al Alt did his
best Scrooge imitation, shutting out the Marlin offense over the final
4 innings. The Rangers claimed sole possession of first place with the
win and the Muskies loss to the Vipers.| On the bases:
